Modifying an Orbital Shaker for bottom-illumination

This is an orbital shaker:

There are some DIY ways to make an orbital shaker. One thing an orbital shaker is used for is growing biological samples. In which case control over light, and light cycles, may be important. Jakub Nedbal, Lu Gao and, Klaus Suhling have written up instructions for modifying an orbital shaker with LED lights underneath an acrylic plate to provide controlled lighting on the shaker.

This is the second project we have covered which stores the real project on OSF.io. You can find the many PDFs that make up the instructions for the project here. The project includes CAD files, a bill of materials, and even a PDF writeup about procuring the parts for the project. The components of the project costs $300-400, including the price of a $100 orbital shaker bought off eBay.
